I am a licensed, bilingual (Spanish-speaking) and bicultural psychologist and President of AK Counseling & Consulting, Inc., where I have established a successful independent psychology practice serving adults in the Athens, GA area and throughout Georgia via telehealth. In my practice, I serve individuals with a wide range of personal and professional concerns. I also offer consultation services to profit and non-profit organizations to enhance the effectiveness and wellness of employees within the workplace, optimizing organizational performance and work satisfaction through evidence-based practices.

Additionally, I have extensive experience in the areas of college student development and I am a nationally recognized expert in cultural diversity. I served as a Multicultural Specialist and directed the Latinx Student Cultural Center at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I also co-chaired the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs of the Massachusetts Psychological Association, and I am a Past President of the Athens-Area Psychological Association. I also chaired the Georgia Psychological Association Public Education Committee and represented the state as a liaison to the American Psychological Association public education campaigns. Nationally, I was appointed to the Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice (CAPP), the governing board for the American Psychological Association Practice Organization. I am currently a core faculty member of the Georgia Psychological Association Leadership Academy aiming to identify, mentor, and support future psychology leaders at both the state and national levels.

In recognition of my contributions to the field of psychology, I was named a Fellow of the Georgia Psychological Association. I have led numerous workshops on a variety of topics and I am frequently interviewed by regional, national and international media and I have been a regular featured guest on CNN en Español. Furthermore, I also hosted a weekly health segment on Georgia Public Radio. My professional interests include mind-body health, college student life and development, women’s issues, relationship concerns, life transitions, anxiety, stress and mood disorders.
